Whatever, wherever, whenever you do in life…

Whatever you do in life, make sure it makes you happy.

I’ve taken on a college class over the past five months. While I’m not the oldest student in the class, I’m one of them. I’m inspired by the new things I’m learning, and mostly the possibility of using the skills and techniques I’m learning. My professor (Mrs. Mercurio) is generous and patient and loving with all the students in the class. I’m very happy I took this class, and got out of my own head thinking I couldn’t do it.

Wherever you are, embrace and love it.

The cold weather in St. Charles has been a thorn in my side for almost three years, so I’ve learned how to embrace and love it. I know how to ‘layer’ my clothes (long johns + pants + sweaters + jackets or coats + hats + gloves and scarves) so I can spend time outside. I watched the leaves change colors and fall off the trees, making colorful, crackly piles of seasons’ end on the ground. I’m loving sitting in our apartment watching the fireplace dance with warmth. I love the friends we’ve made who also brave the cold in Winter and warmth in Summer.

Whenever you face challenges, rise up to meet and overcome them.

Looking back, I’ve explored so much of this area and looking forward, I will continue to find new things to do and learn.  Training for and experiencing my upcoming walk (#Camino2020) are in my immediate future. Challenges show up when we move to a new place, so I’ve learned, over the years and after many moves, there are nice people everywhere, good food with Gluten-Free options, and I am adventurous enough to meet them. One thing I’m not is shy. Remember my dicho (saying): “People are faces until they are your friends.” Shout out to Toni, Eddie, Barb, and Chris who I met by saying “hi” in an airport and sushi bar, respectively.

Your vibe attracts your tribe.

Remember that your energy introduces you before you even speak. Take that on!  Say “Hi.” Meet cool, like-minded people and watch your happiness quotient soar! Dinner parties are my favorite way to connect and nurture my friendships. Shout out to Kim, Mike, Kathleen, and Jeff for joining us for home-made dinners and wonderful stories.

I’m having FUN and enjoying every day. We’ll soon commemorate our three-years in St. Charles, MO. I have learned so much and feel gratitude for this experience.

Aloha🌺,

Denise
