Texas has a fun state fair

Mark and I hopped on the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) Light Rail train at headed south to Fair Park. We marveled at our home’s clean, efficient and fast new mass transit system. The scenery was different from what we’ve seen in recent years too. You must realize, we haven’t lived in Dallas in over 30 years, so of course change is expected. We are happy and grateful that this city is high-tech and fun.

As we entered the park, we were greeted by 60 year old Big Tex: stately and smiling.  We enjoyed the buildings filled with crafts, cars, crap (as we lovingly refer to the shopping buildings) and live stock.

One of our favorite features of any fair is the cuisine. Keep in mind, everything is bigger in Texas and usually fried. We ate the following, in no particular order: grilled alligator, roasted corn on the cob, jumbo dill pickle, 2012 Big Tex Choice winner for best taste Deep Fried Jambalaya, Blue Bell ice cream, BBQ turkey leg, sausage on a stick, chocolate covered bacon, Frito Pie (they won the world’s record for the biggest pie this year), chicken fried bacon and salt water taffy.

What a fabulous day….the DART dropped us off safely and quickly back at our car and we came home.

Fun foods, great people and a big yahoo of a day.

Aloha,

Denise
