Friday is the beginning of the weekend here and a special day in the UAE: there is no government work and select retail is open. Mark is off too. It is a day of worship for most people here.
As part of our Friday, we hired a taxi to show us a new hotel/apartment area and the American school. Then, we walked to a huge mall where the other shoppers were from Pakistan, the Philippines and India. It was filled with clothes & electronics shops, food courts and jewelry stores. The shopkeepers, security guards and other shoppers were friendly, helpful and eager to show us their shops. There was also a huge grocery store carrying not only foods but also big-screen TVs.
Retail is very big here…great for tourists, locals and shop owners.
