Off the grid in the mountains was wonderful

Over the weekend, we were completely off the grid in the mountains; and it was wonderful!!! We drove from Denver, elevation ~5200’ through Conifer, elevation ~8500’ to Foxton, elevation~6500’ to a backyard party at my HH’s uncle’s friend’s place. We gratefully accepted. It was off the charts wonderful!!! Mountains and a river set the stage. The smell of burgers and hot dogs grilling filled my nose. The sounds of live music filled my soul. The warm greetings from party goers, most of whom I’d never met, warmed my heart. No internet fueled my “be present in the moments” thoughts.

There were bands playing, food cooking, and about fifty people milling around.  NOTE: my HH’s uncle is a professional drummer and percussionist, Dr. Rob. The first band played for a while, then a new band came on stage, he stayed on stage. One of the guitarist played in the 70s band, Steppenwolf. Another guitarist was a professional cameraman from the NBC tv station in NYC. They had a singer too who sang her heart out, and a beautiful go-go boots wearing woman tearing it up on her coveted electric guitar.

Steppenwolf a Canadian rock band of the late. 60s, early 70s,  singer Bobby Cochran, sings two classics. Dr. Bob on the drums.
Jeff Scarborough guitarist, journalist, nice man.

The party was great, and everyone was warm and welcoming. The Platt River rushed by as the backdrop to the stage. We even saw three brave kayakers on the river.

Impressions of Colorado after our first weekend here: it’s beautiful, clean, warm, and charming.
Today, we’re going to meet my fourth cousin, on my father’s side, whom my HH found on his genealogy hunt.

My list of “things to do, see, and eat” is just below “people to see” whilst we’re here. So much exploring to do. We will resume our evening walks too. Our high rise building is in a lovely, quiet area in the downtown Denver area. More good stuff to find.

Aloha,

Denise
