As my birthday celebration week continued, we found some International FUN. We hopped on the Orange line of the #DART train and headed way north. We wanted to see the ‘end of the line’ so we stayed on until we were ushered off. Exploring the area and seeing nothing around of interest, we jumped back on the southbound train as it readied to leave. Getting off at the next stop, Downtown Plano Station, we discovered a festival!
To our great enjoyment, we entered the well-organized and populous event. As we walked from one canvas tent to another, we chatted with beautiful people from many parts of the world. When we were talking with the woman from Eritrea, several people were snapping photos of us on huge cameras and phones. Turns out, they wanted to share the pictures ‘back home’ in Eritrea. That may be a place in our future.
Making our way around the park, we stopped at the Azerbaijan tent. There were lovely people there to share their culture with us. We put this place on our list too.
Back on the train to head all the way south, we marveled at the many nationalities represented in our city. As the finale drew closer, we walked from Akard Station to Deep Ellum to enjoy our dinner inside the historic Boyd Hotel, where Chef Tracy (owner of the building for over 20 years) dazzled us with dinner. The restaurant, Local (https://www.localdallas.com/) is a truly “Good Stuff” in Dallas. There was a starter turnip soup with leeks that began our feast. The meal got better with every plate gently laid in front of us by the attentive and intelligent servers. If you’re visiting or live here, I highly recommend this bar & restaurant for a unique experience. NOTE: we were there early and the tables filled up after our photos were snapped.
I am blessed and grateful beyond words. I know every birthday is not guaranteed so I pack as much into the week as possible. Finding new places, being with friends, and spending quality time with my HH are the gifts I give myself. Cheers to another trip around the sun for me. Sixty-two is starting off wonderfully.
Aloha,
Denise
