Using my imagination to be ‘on holiday’

As I scroll through my beloved Facebook news feed, I see that many of my friends are on holiday: Greece, the UK, NOLA, Italy, and HI. So, yesterday, for our last bit of summer outing, I chose to take my HH kayaking…on White Rock Lake…for a couple of hours..and pretend we were in some exotic place far from our Downtown Dallas home.

Backfire.

My HH loathed every second of the water pooled on his bum, paddles dripping water on his legs, his knees bent up to his chest, the sun beating down on him (us, but I loved it), and no pub at the end of the adventure, so he implored me to cut our ‘cruise’ short.

On the other paddling hand, I loved every second of it. The peaceful vistas, the glass-like water (although it was green and littered with bottles, plastic bags, and a diaper!) the majestic trees, and the turtles sunning themselves on fallen branches and flat rocks. I envisioned we were on a canal somewhere and our adventure was outstanding.

Life is made up of all sorts of things: some we love, some we’d rather not repeat, and some we cannot wait to end. This kayak thing is something that I’m going to have to do on my own from now on. If anyone wants to go with me, I’m available!! (HINT HINT: Beth & Jeanne)

Today is another opportunity for a FUN outing. It’s sunny and clear, warm and still, so I’m researching the perfect plan.

Aloha🌺,

Denise
