If you’re a new-ish Empty Nester, here are some quick tips to enhance your lower-than-average-stressful-days:
- Sign up for Yelp updates for local businesses in your area and surrounding areas. Here you will encounter new businesses including restaurants, museums, bars, and activities that you may not have known about whilst you were packing lunches, chaperoning senior trips and parties, and altering prom outfits. (www.yelp.com)
- Subscribe to the local parks and neighborhood restaurants so you’ll know when they have activities, sales, events, etc. In Dallas, TX check out the AT&T Discovery District, Carpenter Park, Klyde Warren Park, Eater magazine, and the Observer newspaper.
- Find your fav spot to relax, read, watch people, think, and meditate. This will ward off melancholy and spice up your imagination for other activities.
- Get a National Park pass so you can visit parks in your area and beyond. Feed your wanderlust.
If exotic travel is not on your calendar, take road trips. Google has listings of flower farms, swap meets, outdoor movie nights, and the like. Be curious and do things you’ve never done before. I call those NDBs.
I send out HUGE hugs to all the new Empty Nesters out there. You’re not alone and you’re loved for ALL you do!!
Aloha🌺,
Denise
