Sharing FUN things to do in a new (or lived-in-for-a-while) city is important to me. I remember when we moved to Honolulu before I met anyone, and Google wasn’t what it is today, I struggled to find the grocery stores, (https://alohadenise.com/2011/03/ and see https://alohadenise.com/?s=scallions), things to do on the weekdays when the kids were in school, and where the locals go to eat, play, relax. Sure, tourist attractions are a must, but so are local experiences. Hello, surfing lessons.
Here in my “new-to-me” city of Dallas (I grew up here but never lived Downtown), I’ve discovered many FUN things to do. I share because I care: I want people who move to know some shortcuts to find FUN. Why reinvent the wheel, right?
Social media links to events are helpful and time efficient. There may be something to do (socially distanced, please) that was not on the my event horizon. So, I’ve taken to scrolling through Facebook Events, and voilà, I found an outdoor yoga class. This combined some of my favorite things: yoga, 10 am, outside. (www.klydewarrenpark.org) They also host evening outdoor movies.
I’ve discovered a Farmers’ Market/ Boutique Sale, some estate sales (perusing is entertaining and relaxing to me), (www.estatesales.net), and where to find some murals, (www.Pinterest.com), my newest obsession.
I hope this helps other Empty Nesters and City newbies.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay positive.
Aloha🌺,
Denise
