Smiling faces are everywhere

Sitting on the bus, I watched as a man ascended the steps, confirmed our bus was going to his intended destination, and sat across from us. He wore a neon construction safety vest, gloves hanging from a carabiner, and a hard-working, grateful-to-be-heading-home face.

I said, “Hi!” Then we started a conversation, and I learned he is a part-time welder. He works extra hours to earn the last bit of his payment on a food truck, his dream. He is a proud father and happy husband. He is Deon Freeman. Watch for him and his food truck, “Side Piece” in Klyde Warren Park soon. His truck concept is side dishes only, and all are made with Southern style and love.

After he told me about his dream, I told him about my book which was once a dream.  I shared with him the link, and he bought it on the spot!

Pro tip: Never give up. If you want it, work for it.

I love meeting cool people, like Deon, and watching their dreams come to fruition. I told him I’d see him at his truck soon. He smiled as he descended the bus to his home.
