Two more hidden gems found on foot

I found two more hidden gems in Dallas during my eight-mile city walk.

Pendulum: (n) A weight hung from a fixed point so that it can swing freely backward and forward, especially a rod with a weight at the end that regulates the mechanism of a clock. I discovered one in the lobby of the Hunt Headquarters’ 480,000+ sq ft. building. The police officer would not allow me entrance but acquiesced to my photography from outside of the door.

Huge pendulum swings in the 1900 N. Akard lobby. No visitors due to covid.

Speak-easy: (n) A speakeasy, also called a blind pig or blind tiger (during prohibition) is an illicit establishment that sells alcoholic beverages, or a retro-style bar that replicates aspects of historical speakeasies. Speakeasy bars came into prominence in the United States during the Prohibition era. The newest one I found is called Atwater Alley. Atwater Alley is “a cozy, two-story den falling somewhere between modern Victorian and Old West saloon” that’s located behind the restaurant’s kitchen. It’s reigned over by beverage director Alex Fletcher (formerly of Victor Tangos and The People’s Last Stand), who is, of course, responsible for Henry’s Majestic’s creative drink menu that includes selections like a nitrous-charged Vietnamese coffee cocktail. I can’t wait to go! Add this one to my list.

Once I found the door, I knew I found some FUN.

Stay well. Stay curious. Have FUN every day!!!!!
