What has this nomad learned in the first five months??????
- Paring down: all of the accommodations we’ve “lived in” have excellent utensils, one even had Cutco knives!!! We don’t need to save or travel with ours. It did feel (insert informal, adjective here) donating all my purple spatulas, spoons, and the like, but it’s out in the universe now, for someone else to enjoy. Same goes for clothes, shoes, and my collection of hair do-dads.
- Exercise: I have great sneakers that make my walking comfortable and effective. The CDC recommends 20-minutes of walking per day, and we clock much more than that, especially on sunny days. I have also reestablished my in-home yoga practice. In Denver, there was a studio a six-minute walk from our apartment, here in Dallas I discovered a rec. center close by for cold weather walking and maybe a yoga class. Staying healthy is of utmost important to this nomad. No need to stop exercising because there are different ways to keep moving.
- Eating: My intermittent fasting two days a week is still on schedule, as is my affinity for tacos and sushi. We cook almost daily, eating one meal a day, completing by four o’clock in the afternoon. Hurray for garnish brought out to our fire pit, lanai, or living room. Additionally, there are good, reliable, and recognizable restaurants everywhere.
- Friends: There is so much comfort, joy, and commiseration in seeing friends from any and all stages of life. I believe in kismet; and reconnecting is my way of life. There are also great hair stylists, estheticians, and the like in every city. I’ve been so fortunate to find many.
I have curated my thoughts, shared, and continue to live my blessed life. My absence lately has been due to ruminations about my dear friend, Julie, and her transition to heaven this week; my kids’ upcoming graduations from their schools; our health, my 89-year old mom, and how 2025’s adventures will pan out.
I am a happy nomad, seizing each day, taking notes for another book, and oh-so-grateful for all the blessings in my life.
Aloha,
Denise
