Cinco de Mayo, 2024

What’s in store for today?

Cinco de Mayo is a yearly celebration held on May 5 to celebrate Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza. It’s not a national holiday in Mexico, but here in the US, it’s a big delicious deal.

Course 1: CHIMALMA. A woman-owned modern Mexican restaurant in Downtown Dallas. We enjoyed the enfrijoladas with drinks outside on their elevated deck, overlooking the JFK memorial. Owner Andrea and GM Angie greeted me with smiles and hugs. Our server, Vicky, took great care of us.

Course 2: Wild Salsa. A fan fav, we go here for the amazing salsa and fresh-made chips, as well as bartender Emily’s great drinks. The taco trio is great and so is the cilantro rice, served by the wonderful Kenzie and David and Promise.

Course 3: A live performance at Stoney’s to hear Mike Bogle on the keyboard, with our friends Bill and Brenda (whom we met at another live performance.) https://alohadenise.com/big-cultural-weekend-in-the-city/

The day’s celebrations all include good food, friends, music, history, and FUN. Have FUN wherever you are.

Aloha,

Denise
