It started with the DNA test. Results indicated we had family members living thirty minutes from us. We* reached out (*my HH, Mark) to them. At first, there was hesitation and we proved we weren’t a scam. Then faith: the introductions in public places. Then the bonds: an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner among all the family. Then another gathering: a huge celebration for the matriarch of the family as she reached her milestone 100th birthday. The joy that came out of that weekend filled our hearts and strengthened our resolve to find, nurture more family ties.
Yesterday, we all gathered again to lay to rest the beautiful woman who always cited, “without me, you all wouldn’t be here.” While there certainly was sadness, I sensed joy circling the sanctuary.
Family isn’t something, it’s everything.
